Couple of Questions from a nebie at PS/Bridge/Camera RAW

Hi everyone.

First off I'm excited to be part of this forum. I have search for the past 45 minutes to find out what would be the best forum to signup for and which as the most topics ( in case I need to search for something that somone has already talked about, without having to ask he same question again and getting people fustrated when they have already answered the question. ) and responses to peoples questions.

I'm new to Photoshop and new to Bridge and Camera Raw. Right now I'm doing a video tutorial called " Lynda.com - Photoshop CS5 Essential Training "

For anyone who doesn't know about Lynda.com or totaltraining.com I would highly recommend them. I have dual monitors so I'm able to watch the video on my right screen and actually do the tutorial instructions on my left monitor.

From what I understand is that if you shoot a file in .raw format your basically shooting a negative that is uncompressed allowing you over 65k different brightness levels. Unlike the alterative with shooting in.jpeg which only allows you 256 brightness levels. I get that point.

#1 When they say that a .raw file is locked and you can't change the file directlyinstead you just make a series of choses of how you want the .raw file to be processed. When I work on a raw image in Adobe Camera Raw (.dwg file) everything I do like chnaging the exposure/contrast, etc.. to me it's changing the file. Are they saying the only way you can make changes is to save the file in another format? ( I'm so confused there )

#2 Now say I open a .jpeg in Camera Raw to change a image of a women who has redeyes. I choose the correct object to complete the task, draw the square around the eyes and it removes the redness for me. Wonderful. Now since that is a .jeg and not a RAW file, does that mean the file is changed?

#3 Now say I do save the file and reopen it in Camera Raw as soon as I open it there is a Yellow Question mark that flashes real quick, what is that question mark about?

#4 I upload this image to

http://i54.tinypic.com/a27msl.jpg

so people can see what I'm talking about. When an image is worked on they put symbols in Adobe Bridge right above the image. On the top right. I hope you can see it. Can someone please explain to me what they mean. I can't put my mouse over it cause it doesn't say anything about what it is

#5 .And they say when you do something in Camera Raw it doesn't change the picture, yet when I do something like take the redness out of her eyes, when I reopen the file the redness is gone.Does this only efffect images that are shot in RAW format?

Sorry for asking so many question, but I can't go on any further without understanding these things. Thanks so much. I will also try my hardest to become an active member on the forums to help people once I start to get a little better.

Thanks in Advanced
